Heartland Health Region has approximately 100 First Responders who represent the front-line volunteers in the Emergency Medical Services team. First Responders are local volunteers who maintain advanced First Aid and CPR training that prepares them to deal with traumatic physical injuries as well as serious medical emergencies until ambulances arrive on the scene. First Responders assess injuries and illnesses and initiate emergency treatments prior to the arrival of the ambulance. They work closely with EMS personnel to provide the public with prompt and efficient care in times of emergency.
