The Town of Kindersley and NRC Community Management Inc. are pleased to announce more upcoming renovations to the Norman Ritchie Centre that will enhance its use in the community.

As per a new agreement with the Town, effective July 1, 2016, operation and maintenance of the Norman Ritchie Centre is now managed by NRC Community Management Inc., a new non-profit organization comprised of community stakeholders. The three-year agreement is the result of successful collaboration to support the long-term sustainability of the Kindersley performing arts centre.

Beginning this week, the steeple adorning the facility will be removed to make room for a new roof that is to be constructed in September. A public tender will be issued shortly for this project. Removal of some bushes along the front of the building is also anticipated. The cost of the new roof is being funded by the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, a matching grant of $102,250 awarded to the Town and management board in 2015.

Planned interior renovations include an expansion of second floor office space utilized by Sun West School Division and re-finishing of the basement, which was gutted several years ago due to flooding. Both will allow for increased rental usage of the building, according to NRC Community Management Inc. representative Lorne Kelsey.

“We’ve had a positive interaction with the Town of Kindersley and we look forward to revitalizing the Norman Ritchie Centre for the community,” said Lorne Kelsey of the NRC Community Management Inc.

The Town of Kindersley provided an operating grant of $21,500 to the NRC Community Management Inc. in the 2016 Budget.
