Plans to construct a new fire hall in 2018 are moving quickly forward. The Town of Kindersley has published a Request for Proposals seeking a contractor to build the facility using a design generated through cooperation of the Town, RM of Kindersley, and Kindersley Fire Department.

The new fire hall is to be built at 111 Railway Avenue on 1.7 acres of land purchased by the Town in 2017. The building will consist of five bays, a training area, a hose tower, rest area for eight personnel, and ample storage for fire safety equipment.

“We are grateful for the input and partnership of the RM of Kindersley in this venture, as well the volunteer members of our Fire Department, their families, and employers, for their patience, support, and commitment in serving Kindersley and surrounding region,” said Mayor Rod Perkins.

Chief Administrative Officer Bernie Morton and Fire Chief Ron Hope echoed similar statements of appreciation and the anticipation of seeing the project complete.

“We are very pleased to be moving forward on this important capital project that has been much needed for several years and will support the safety and essential services provided by our Kindersley Fire Department,” Morton said.

Added Hope: “For me, this is the result of many years of requests and planning so I am very happy to see it happening. From the Department’s point of view, our operations are consistently changing and each season we are making adjustments to continue doing our work so this building is going to allow our operations to be more fluid and efficient. We’re all very excited.”

Three major construction projects are scheduled for completion or near completion in Kindersley this year beginning with the Western Regional Landfill west of Kindersley by July, the indoor aquatic centre by fall 2018, and the fire hall soon after.

The new fire hall is intended to meet the emergency response needs of the community for the next 30 or more years.

Deadline for submissions to the Fire Hall RFP is Friday, June 22 at 4:00 pm. More information can be found at Kindersley.ca/bids or on the Sask Tenders website.
