In recognition of the Canadian Cancer Society and its efforts, Council of the Town of Kindersley has proclaimed October 2017 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The proclamation is intended to increase awareness of the effects and causes of breast cancer across Canada and to encourage all residents to participate in educating themselves on breast cancer by visiting www.cancer.ca.

Quick facts provided by the Canadian Cancer Society:

  • Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer in Canadian women (excluding skin cancer)
  • 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime
  • Those with a personal or family history of breast cancer are at a higher risk of developing breast cancer
  • The Canadian Cancer Society recommends that women follow cancer screening guidelines and women between 50 and 69 years of age and have a mammogram every two  years.
