We are very pleased to introduce our new Aquatic Manager, Chantelle Benjamin, as we prepare for the opening of the new indoor aquatic centre later this year. Get to know Chantelle a bit better in this Q&A and view updates on construction at Kindersley.ca/pool.

Construction of the new pool is progressing well. What are you feeling as opening day gets closer?

EXCITEMENT! Every week, our town gets closer to having our very own indoor swimming pool, which opens the door to all kinds of opportunities. I feel so proud and honoured to be a part of this facility and the Kindersley team.

Tell us about your aquatics experience and what your vision is for Kindersley’s indoor aquatic centre?

I have a long history in aquatics, and that love and passion for water is just as strong now as it has ever been. I have worked at all types of aquatic facilities in a variety of positions as well as open water rescue. I strongly believe in water safety education and the health benefits of aquatic environments.

I want the Kindersley Aquatic Centre to be a place that the residents of Kindersley are proud of, a place where they feel welcome and safe, a place for learning, a place for fun, and a place for memories.

What work needs to get done to prepare for the pool’s opening?

Presently the to do list is quite extensive for we are still hovering around the ground level. Decisions need to be made regarding equipment, administration, staffing, training, programming, scheduling, and of course, ongoing fundraising, to name a few. There will be many other "to do's" but we are progressing in a timely fashion and I look forward to opening. Fundraising continues to be a top priority.

What are the positions expected to be available at the new pool?

Expected positions include lifeguards and/or swimming instructors, swimming pool operators, aquatic fitness instructors and reception. I welcome anyone interested in learning about these opportunities to contact me directly or participate in the upcoming information sessions beginning in late January. More information can be found on the Town of Kindersley website (Kindersley.ca/pool).

When and how will residents be able to sign up for swimming lessons and other aquatics programs?

The dates to sign up for programs are yet to be determined. Once program logistics are finalized, registration can be completed through the Town of Kindersley Website or in person.

What are three interesting things about yourself?

  • My passion for water led me to a career in environmental science and then this opportunity with the Kindersley Aquatic Centre. To me, water is a gift more valuable than all the precious gems in the world.
  • I have been told I have a quirky sense of humour and curiosity. I love to laugh and have fun but, at the same time, not lose sight of a task at hand. I am an adventurer. I enjoy traveling, meeting new people, preserving old friendships, experiencing and learning new things, and spending time with family and loved ones.
  • Two years ago, my incredibly supportive husband and I opened a new chapter of our life called parenthood. This has been exciting, trying, confusing, and fun all wrapped up together and we couldn’t be happier that we did it. Currently we have two amazing little boys who are so very fortunate to be growing up with a facility like the Kindersley Aquatic Centre.
