Replacement of Kindersley’s Main Street traffic signals is scheduled to be complete before the end of the year.

Council approved a motion to proceed with the purchase and installation of new traffic signals on Main Street during the Regular Meeting of Council on October 11. The project will cost $261,044 and will result in improved safety and visibility for motorists along Main Street.

Signals and LED lights will be replaced in all four existing traffic signal locations between Railway Avenue and 5th Avenue. The new signals will be standard intersection traffic poles with davit arms extending to the centre of Main Street on which the traffic signals will rest. Materials have already been ordered and will be purchased directly by the Town of Kindersley. RGM Contracting Inc., the lowest bidder for the recent Main Street Traffic Lights Replacement Project Request for Proposals, will be contracted to complete the installation.

Once the project is underway, all existing traffic signals will be removed and 4-way stop signs will be put in place. Every effort will be taken to minimize disruption to traffic flow during installation of the lights, which will occur one intersection at a time.

Installation is tentatively scheduled to begin by the beginning of November.

The traffic signal replacement project does not include the intersection of Highway 7 and Main Street. The Town of Kindersley continues to negotiate with the Ministry of Highways, which is responsible for all infrastructure along Highways 7 and 21, for replacement of those traffic signals.
