Deputy Mayor Shaun Henry presented Municipal Long Service Award medals from the Canadian Volunteer Fire Service Association to three members of the Kindersley Fire Department in recognition of their years of volunteer service to the fire brigade – Fire Chief Ron Hope (37 years), Deputy Fire Chief Rod Stevens (32 years), and Senior Captain David Burke (40 years).

With most members of the Fire Department in attendance to witness, Council passed a resolution directing Administration to publish the Request for Tender for construction of a new fire hall at 111 Railway Avenue West.

Rahim Mohamed, Director of Soccer for the Saskatchewan Soccer Association, was a second delegation to Council, and spoke about the benefits of having year-round soccer programs in the community and the growing popularity of the sport throughout Canada. Darin Wildman, a rep of Kindersley Soccer, also attended the meeting in support of the presentation and expressed the local association’s desire to see an indoor multi-purpose facility constructed in Kindersley.

Council accepted a letter from the Kindersley Regional Park consenting to the tie-in of the raw water line for the purposes of irrigated the Slo-Pitch Association and Regional Park ball diamonds.

Having reviewed an application to subdivide property located at NW ¼ 3-29-23-W3M; Parcel C, Plan 63S10974; Plan L2993 Ext. 64, Council resolved that there were no concerns regarding municipal zoning bylaws or facilities affected by the proposed development. A similar resolution was passed concerning a sub-division application for proposed development at NE ¼ 22-29-23-W3M, Proposed Parcel A.

Mayor Rod Perkins and Chief Administrative Officer Bernie Morton were directed to enter into several agreements:

  • A Concession Lease Agreement with 101262721 Saskatchewan Ltd. for operation of the West Central Events Centre concession.
  • A Waste Disposal and Recycling Collection agreement with Loraas Environmental Services for regular curbside waste and recycling pick-up for the Town.
  • A lease agreement with Tarrickfic Aerial Ltd. for Lot 19 at the Kindersley Regional Airport.
  • An agreement with Kindersley and District Plains Museum (2010) Inc. for the operation of the Kindersley Tourist Booth, which is located at the museum.

Council accepted the request by Pro-Bilt Structures Ltd., the design builder of the Kindersley Aquatic Facility, for a 30-day extension to the contract time for completion of the new indoor facility. The amended contract time for completion will be amended to October 31, 2018.

Council adopted a revised Procurement and Purchasing Policy, which now includes a definition of ‘local provider’ pertaining to sections of the policy that encourage acquiring products and services locally. 

The month of June was declared as Recreation and Parks Month in Kindersley, in support of the annual initiative of the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association to celebrate the benefits of active living and use of parks and recreation spaces.
